Outpatient Subspecialty Rotation

CATEGORICAL INTERNS
GOALS
To obtain an introduction to the subspecialty practices of
ophthalmology, otolaryngology, orthopaedics and gynecology.
Within each discipline, the diagnostic and therapeutic skills that are
within the competency of a general internist shall be introduced and an
understanding of the indications for routine and emergency referral shall be
stressed.
OBJECTIVES
Please refer to the individual subspecialty objectives
contained in the OPS Syllabus in the Department of Medicine.
ROTATION SCHEDULE
Please contact Ann Peff, MD (215-481-4350, cell 7313,
beeper 88-1-2122) to review the OPS schedule.
You have been assigned one-week rotations with the
following preceptors, according to the schedule provided by the Department of
Medicine:
Dr. Francis Clark
Ophthalmology
Dr. Cordelia Uddoh
Ophthalmology Clinic in the ASU
Dr. Ken Einhorn
Otolaryngology
Dr. Denise Hartman
Gynecology
Dr. Richard Goldberg
Orthopaedics
If you are unable to attend any of the subspecialty
office sessions (because of ASU obligations) you must notify your designated
preceptor.
EDUCATION
Each preceptor has a curriculum available to you in his or
her offices. The OPS Syllabus also has pertinent book chapter references and
literature reviews.
AMBULTORY SERVICES UNIT SUBSPECIALTY CLINICS
You will be asked to help with coverage of some of
the ASU Subspecialty clinics (GI, Neuro, Endo, Pulmonary, Renal, Cardiology,
Rheumatology) on an as-needed basis. The first day of your rotation and weekly
thereafter, contact the OPS R3 to review the OPS clinic schedule for the
upcoming week. Your first priority is to the OPS R1 Subspecialty rotations (ENT,
GYN, Orthopaedics and Ophthalmology). Please notify Dr. Peff if there are significant conflicts.
ASU OPTHALMOLOGY CLINIC
On the 2nd, 3rd and 4th
Tuesday, from 12:30 to 4:00 PM you are asked to attend this clinic supervised by
Dr. Cordelia Uddoh.
INTERN PRIMARY CARE CLINIC (ASU or Off-Site)
Interns should attend their primary care clinic. Notify the
individual OPS preceptor of this obligation at the beginning of your assigned
week. Notify the OPS R3 of your clinic at the beginning of the month.
VACATION
Vacations are not recommended during this block.
EVALUATION
You are required to obtain an evaluation from each of the
four preceptors at the completion of your one-week rotation. This evaluation
form will be included with your orientation material. It is not the standard
Meditrek form, and cannot be completed on-line by your preceptors. Submit the
four completed evaluation forms to the Department of Medicine at the end of the
month.
