Bridge R3

(PGY 3)

Start Time: 1PM (Cover post-call R3’s service until sign out at 4:00PM or 4:30PM in Units)

If post-call R3 is on elective, start time is 4:00PM. (HC is responsible for knowing who they are relieving [i.e. call switches].

Monday-Friday: 4:00 or 4:30PM-10PM (or 12MN) Report to ER and help AO/Long Call intern with admissions. The distribution of patients will be on a rotational basis (i.e. AO/long call intern/Bridge R2/House Chief/AO…etc)

Saturday: 1:00PM-12MN Report to the ER to do admissions with the daytime and nighttime AO’s respectively.

Sunday: OFF

Shift: 1:00PM-12:00MN on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday

Shift: 1:00PM-10:00PM on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
 

Bridge R3 & Sub-I On Call
[Sub-Intern Coverage]

The Bridge R3 will be primarily responsible for overseeing the 4W Sub-Intern on call from 4PM until 10PM Monday through Friday. After 10PM and on weekends, the Moonlighter takes over this responsibility. The BR3 is excused from the rotational distribution of admissions when Sub-I coverage takes priority. It is expected that the BR3 will not abuse this policy and continue to assist the AO when able.

Bridge R2

(PGY 2)

Start Time: 1PM (Cover post-call R2’s service until 4:00 (floors) or 4:30PM (units).

              If post-call R2 is on elective, start time is 4:00PM. BR-2 is responsible for knowing who they are relieving (i.e. call switches).

Monday-Friday: 4:00or 4:30PM-10PM (or 12MN). Go to ER and help with admissions (First backup for AO). Responsibilities include taking admissions in a rotational fashion with the AO, Long Call Intern and HC; and helping the Long Call Intern with admissions when necessary (early in year).

Saturday: OFF

Sunday: 1:00PM-12MN Report to the ER to do admissions with the daytime and nighttime AO’s respectively.

Shift: 1:00PM-12:00MN on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday

Shift: 1:00PM-10:00PM on Tuesday and Thursday

Bridge R1

Mon-Fri: Start Time-1PM (Cover post-call R1’s service until sign out at 4:00PM). If floor team R1 is post call, then this service is covered by BR-1. The floor teams will have priority over ICU/CCU teams. The units will be fully staffed with R3 and R2’s as there is only one on per night.

4:30 – 7:30PM: BR-1 assumes role of "Cross Cover" intern in old system. Covers Teaching Floors until Night Float R1 arrives.

Saturday Nights: Does Night Float shift to relieve NF intern. (7:30PM-7:00AM)

Sunday: OFF

N.B. Residents on BR3, BR-R2, & BR-R1 are NOT required to attend their regular ambulatory clinics. The BR-2 and HC will take admissions until 30 minutes prior to the end of their shift!!

(i.e. at 11:30 if their shift ends at midnight). A high degree of professionalism and cooperation is expected from all residents and departures from this norm will be taken seriously.
